Ventura County Medical Education Fund

Area of Study: Medical/Health Care Field

This Fund was developed to create a pipeline of new medical professionals to serve in Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) or public hospitals in Ventura County. Awarded to applicants who are graduating or have graduated from a Ventura County high school and who will enroll or are currently enrolled in a program to pursue a Certification, Associates, Bachelor or Master’s degree. Applicants must be committed to providing hands on health care delivery in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) or public hospital in Ventura County. Applicants must have a minimum of 2.0 unweighted GPA.

College Major/Certification: Certification, Associates, Bachelors, Masters, Doctorate in the following healthcare fields: Biology, chemistry, health science, physical therapy (all levels), occupational therapy, speech therapy, kinesiology, medical coding, cancer registrar, health management, pharmacy (all levels), phlebotomy, bio-chemistry, substance abuse certificate, social work, psychology, clinical lab scientist, Marriage and Family Therapy, Public Health or Nursing, Certified Nurse Assistant, EMT, paramedics, dentistry, operation room technician, scrub technician, sterile processing technician, respiratory therapy, imaging/radiology (all levels), front/back office medical assistant, Physician Assistant, registered dietician, medical lab technician, optometry/opticians (all levels).

Special Requirements: This award is a “grant service obligation.” Applicants must intend to provide direct service for at least three years in one of the Ventura County’s safety net systems (hospitals, clinics).

Average Award: $2,000 certificate; $4,000 Associates; $6,000 Bachelors; $8,000 Graduate level

Preference is given to applicants attending local medical education programs as identified the VCMEDU Oversight Committee.
