Merfeld Family Foundation Scholarship Fund

Graduating high school seniors from high schools in the United States intending to enroll full-time in an accredited 2-year or 4-year college or university OR students who are currently enrolled full-time at an accredited 2-year or 4-year college or university. Candidates must be from a family where a parent was diagnosed with ALS while the applicant was/is in high school or in college. Along with the VCCF scholarship application and required components, students must include documentation of parent diagnosis consisting of a signed and dated (within 6 months of the application deadline) letter on letterhead from an ALS Center or ALS Clinic. Prior recipients may re-apply for consideration in successive years. Applicants must have a minimum 2.75 GPA. A preference in the selection process will be given to applicants from Southern California and from the state of Iowa. A preference in the selection process will be given to applicants who demonstrate financial need. Limit of one award per family. Per Fund Agreement “if not qualified applications from either Iowa or counties of Southern California, those funds will remain unspent to be used in subsequent years for awards for students from those specific geographic areas”
